Email 1: A performance reminders will be sent leading up to your payment due date. Now's the perfect time to let us know if you wish to cancel, update your ticket reservation, or request a payment extension.
Email 2: This email is packed with essential information to ensure your trip to the Alley is a success! Here are the key details to look out for:
-
Student Matinee Form: Fill out this form to give us information about the day of group contact, cell phone number, lunch plans, transportation needs, talkback plans, and accessibility needs. For more information on accessibility, click here.
-
Bus Parking Information: Groups arriving in busses may arrive as early as 9:00 a.m. Busses will park near Minute Maid Park. Keep in mind the city requires all bus drivers to remain in their bus at all times while parked to avoid receiving a ticket violation for HPD. There are nearby cafés for restroom use. Please confirm with your bus driver whethere or not you're staying for the 20-min post-show talkback. This will determine what time they will be heading back to the Alley. Links to Bus Parking Instructions will become available as we get closer to show dates.
-
Alley Re-Sourced: There are several guided activities for you to explore with your class before or after the show.
-
Alley Etiquette Video: We encourage students to engage with the production during the show. Our Alley Etiquette Video provides useful tips on how to engage in a positive way!
-
Show Information: Run time and content considerations will be listed. Alley Theatre provides content alerts, but does not censor or edit the content of a play for Student Matinees. It is the responsibility of the school representative and principal to determine whether a play is appropriate for their students. Scripts are available upon request.
Call: An Alley staff member will reach out to the main group contact to double-check the details submitted in the Student Matinee Form or to gently nudge you to complete the form if it's still pending.
Email 3: This is the final email you'll receive the day before your visit. Expect a follow-up text on the morning of your trip to ensure you have everything you need. Here's what's included:

-
Safety Procedures: To ensure a safe an enjoyable experience for all guests, please read the safety instructions listed on the email.
-
Collect cell phones on your way to the theatre. We want the audience to engage with the actors without distractions. Audible moments of surprise, laughter, and shock are common, and shushing a student will stifle their experience.
-
Upon arrival, a Bus Greeter will meet your bus, confirm parking instructions and return time with the driver, and provide a bus number corresponding to your pager number.
-
Your pager is key to dismissal. Please do not self-dismiss; we will page you when your bus is in a safe location for loading.
-
The Bus Greeter will welcome your students and get them excited for the show. We will unload students in a single-file line. Depending on your arrival time, we may hold you on the outside steps, lobby stairs, or move you directly into the theater.
-
Please follow all directions from Alley staff members.

Lunch Plans: Make the most out of your students' experience and have them explore Downtown for lunch (if time permits). There are several options you can coordinate on your own or through us if you're adding a backstage tour or post-show workshop.
-
OPTION 1: Many schools bring their school lunch and leave them on the busses. They will have their lunch on the bus on their way back to school after the performance.
-
OPTION 2: If you have a little more time to spend downtown, Lynn Wyatt Square is a great option to have lunch with your students and it’s right across the street from the Alley.
-
We can hold your lunch in the theatre during the performance so you can grab and go on your way out. You will not be allowed to eat during intermission.
-
You must coordinate your lunch plans prior to your scheduled performance with Monica Marcha. We will only hold the lunches that have been previously coordinated.
-
The theatre cannot accept lunch or other food or beverage delivery unless you have a post-show MAPS Experience.
-
-
OPTION 3: Downtown has plenty of great locations for students/school groups to purchase food.
-
Downtown Tunnel area: Chick-Fil-A, Treebeards, Otto’s Barbeque, Starbucks, Michael’s Cookie Jar, Salata, Uncle Sharkii Poke Bar, Which Wich
-
Chipotle
-
Lone Star Taco
-
The Post (food hall)
-
-
OPTION 4: You’ve added a backstage tour or post-show workshop! We will reserve a space for your students to have a 30-minute lunch prior to the start of your MAPS Experience. You can either bring lunches or can have food and beverages delivered to the Alley. Please coordinate your plans with Monica Marcha.
Pictures: We understand you want to make this experience memorable. For everyone's safety, you're welcome to take pictures during intermission only.
Concessions: Unfortunately, we do not have concessions available for purchase during school matinee shows.
End of Show: For smooth traffic flow and safety, please refrain from self-dismissal. We'll dismiss schools in the order your bus(es) arrive. Your pager will alert you when it's your turn to load in a safe location. If you're staying for the talkback, dismissals will begin 20 minutes after its start.
